Laika und Freunde is an online science magazine. It focuses on discoveries and their significance, as well as the paths to discovery. The name is reminiscent of animals that humans sacrifice for their own purposes. In 1957, Laika became the first animal to orbit the Earth. She died during the flight and subsequently became an unwitting heroine in stories of progress and discovery: Cold War propaganda.

Science shapes society and is shaped by it. It is an important part of the modern world. Understanding scientific research and asking important questions about it are key to thriving societies and thriving research. Laika und Freunde was founded with this in mind.

Authors

Currently, all texts are written by Niko Komin. He also selects the topics, edits the articles, and publishes them, many illustrations are also done by Niko. However, this will not remain the case. The website is intended to grow and flourish through collaboration with others, preferably in other languages as well.
